STEEL BLOCK NATIONALS CHANGED TO ONE DAY EVENT August 14th, 2008
Track Officials have announced the Steel Block Nationals scheduled for two days will be condensed to a one day event on Saturday September 13th.
Director of Operations Dan Bainey had this to say “We looked at this event for a while and decided that with the cost of fuel and hotels on both the teams and fans, it would help them more if we ran it all in one day.”
Track Owner Tim Bainey said that was his #1 Priority. "We know its a tough time for everyone right now, and I want to make sure this is an event that is affordable for the drivers, fans, teams, and their families. So we decided to go to a one day deal."
"We've upped the purses and are trying to cut the costs - It's our way of saying thanks to everyone for their support in our first season. We have some great things in store for CPS in 2009 and are hoping to make some announcements on that soon!"
The second annual Steel Block Nationals will see a pay increase from last year with the winner taking home $4008 and the starting money is a cool $400.
Along with the Late Models, the Street Stocks will be running the final event of the Street Stock Shootout. They also will be running for an increased payday with $3008 to win and $300 to start the event.
“I’m really looking forward to the Nationals, said CPS Owner Tim Bainey. “We want this race to be one people mark on their calendars year after year like they do for the Yankee Doodle. This should be one of the biggest events in the Northeast as we closeout our 2008 season and we are looking forward to some great racing with some of the region’s biggest stars."
The event will start at 5:00 with the pit gates opening at 1 p.m., the Grandstands and Hill Parking will open at 2p.m. Total payouts and pre-registration forms will be added in the upcoming days. The track does have an overnight camping area, free of charge.
A rain date for the event has been set for Sunday September 14th.
KOALA BEAR NATIONALS - GO KART EVENT Central Pa Speedway Management announced they will hold the First Annual Koala Bear Nationals Go-Kart Event September 28th, 2008. It will be the First Ever Go-Karts Racing Event at The Big Track. Tentatively there will be ten classes, payouts will include the top five in each division. The payouts range from $500 per class all the way to $1325 for the Adult medium class. Director of Operations Dan Bainey said, “We have been looking into all types of entertainment for at the speedway and the go-karts matched very well at the moment.” He went on to add, “I’ve talked with some of the teams and they are extremely excited to have the opportunity to race at the Big Bear. As a matter of fact three of the teams brought their karts to display at the Yankee Doodle and said they can’t wait to mix it up on the big track." The track will be releasing more details in the near future regarding classes, rules, and payouts. Tim Bainey Sr. was excited with the announcement as well, "This is like running at Daytona for these teams - they normally run on much smaller tracks and I think it will be blast to have them on the Big Bear." STEEL BLOCK NATIONAL PRE-REGISTRATION TO START SOON An announcement will be coming in the next few weeks, along with a New Online Pre-Registration Form.
33rd YANKEE DOODLE AT CENTRAL PA GOES TO BARBARA By Terry Whetstone - July 3, 2008 CLEARFIELD, PA - CNB Bank & the Navasky Foundation for Life teamed up with Central PA Speedway to present the 33rd running of the Yankee Doodle 50 and together they didn’t let Mother Nature dampen their spirits as the Big Bear withstood her showers and the show went on with Keith Barbara of South Park earning his first ever Yankee Doodle victory and his first ever win at CPS. Dan “The Real Deal” Smeal of Ramey picked up his third straight Rex Energy Street Stock feature win. The UFO late models returned to CPS for their second visit and by the luck of the draw it was Jared Miley and Gregg Satterlee that led the 33 car field to the start. It was Satterlee who shot into the lead as the race had trouble getting a couple of laps in, but Satterlee led and had Miley in second, Chub Frank third and Keith Barbara in fourth. As the race continued, Barbara was hooked up and flying as he came from eighth to take the lead on only the sixth lap. While Barbara was setting a torrid pace, he wasn’t exactly pulling away from the field, as the fight for second began to heat and with Satterlee in second and Miley, Shawn McGarvey, Frank and Mike Blose challenging each other for the position for a while, then McGarvey took second on lap18 but two laps later, as he challenged Barbara on the outside going into the first turn, the leaders touched and McGarvey went sailing off the first turn. On the restart it was still Barbara in the lead with Frank now in second and Blose third. Miley, Satterlee and now Jason Witherite were jockeying for the runner up spot. The race continued with Blose now in second and McGarvey working his way back to third on lap 32, but Frank was still there as was Witherite and now Tim Fedder moved into the picture to challenge for the top spot, all the while it was still Barbara protecting the lead. A pair of cautions on laps 39 and 40 slowed the race again with Frank now in second. As the green unfurled again it was still Frank in second as he was pressuring Barbara for the win with Blose, Miley and McGarvey completing the top five. With just one lap remaining a caution flew for a spinning car and that regrouped the field for a two lap shoot out. Frank dove to the bottom of the track and Barbara took the outside as they ran door to door for a lap, but Barbara held off the advances from Frank as Mike Frisco waved the double checkered flags over the field. Frank held on to second with Blose, Miley and McGarvey completing the top five. Rodney Sweitzer, Tim Fedder, DJ Myers and Alex Ferree won the heat races, Dan Smeal and Neil Wilson led the street stock 20 lapper to the green with Smeal taking the lead and setting the pace. As he led fourth place Jeff Mease was looking for a groove to get past the leader, as they were three and four wide from third place back through the field. While Smeal led the race second place was closing in with Mease breaking and pitting on lap eight giving second to Fuzzy Fields with Rusty Martz, Gary Little and Bob Roseman filling out the top five. The top five positions were swapping positions throughout the race, but the lead was always Smeals. As the race came to a conclusion it was Smeal taking his third win of the season followed by Fields, Roseman, Martz and Little. Heat wins went to Bill Henney, Dam Smeal, Fuzzy Fields, and Rusty Martz. Keith Barbara Is Dandy at the 33rd Annual UFo Yankee Doodle at Central PA Speedway! UFO RELEASE - (July 3, 2008)
Keith Barbara was the winner of the 33rd Annual Yankee Doodle 50, presented by C&B Bank and the Nevasky Foundation on Thursday night at Central PA Speedway. The South Park, PA driver survived two rain delays that stretched the 52 lap feature race to over three hours in the event for the Unified Force Race Championship Super Late Model Tour presented by Comcast .
With a field of 34 cars on hand, four qualifying races were run. Heat 1 was won by Rodney Sweitzer from the outside pole, a fete duplicated by Tim Fedder in Heat 2. Heat 3 went to D.J. Myers also from outside row 1, with Alex Ferree winning Heat 4 from starting position 4. With threatening weather throughout the area for the duration of the race day, track management graciously announced that they would eliminate the need for any Last Chance Races, by allowing all 34 cars the chance to run the feature event.
In the redraw for the top 12 starting positions, the higher positions went early, with the two front row positions still available to the last three drivers to draw. The tenth driver to draw, Jared Miley, finally nabbed the pole position. Gregg Satterlee was next to draw, and nabbed position 2, and the 34-car starting field was set to go. 33 cars would start the 33rd running of the Yankee Doodle, with just nationally-known Hooters Pro Cup Series point leader Benny Gordon, making a rare dirt race start, unable to answer the call due to car problems in his heat race.
The 33rd Annual Yankee Doodle 50 was set, running a distance of 51 laps in regards to UFo Area 51 procedure. With Jared Miley and Gregg Satterlee leading the field to green at exactly 9:00 PM, Satterlee blasted into the lead in turn two, but the caution flag immediately replaced the green as Josh Kennelley spun at the flagstand. The second try for a start was a good one, as Satterlee again used a good run through turn two on the outside to grab the lead. Lap 2 saw the caution appear, and during this caution period a few drops of rain started to fall. It caused the race to go into a rain delay, as the track crew immediately went to work to help prepare the soggy surface into shape. After 51 minute delay, the racing was able to resume.
An incident on the attempted restart saw a tangle that knocked UFo point leader Alex Ferree from competition. Racing resumed with Satterlee leading, but eighth starting Keith Barbara got a good run on the inside as he advanced from fifth at the break to second. Miley settled into third, with Mike Johnson and Chub Frank trailing. Frank and D.J. Myers passed Johnson to take fourth and fifth on lap 4. With the leaders quickly catching the tail of the field, lap 6 saw Barbara use the inside of turn two to take the lead at lap 7. Miley grabbed second from Satterlee on lap 8, as the caution appeared.
On a lap 11 restart, Barbara continued to show the way, with Miley and Satterlee now racing for second. Satterlee used the outside to take second on lap 14, with Frank passing Miley a lap later. Frank passed Satterlee for second on lap 16, and closed quickly on leader Barbara. Barbara and Frank were side by side at the line on lap 17 with Barbara still inches ahead. Frank moved ahead through turns one and two, but the move was wiped out by a yellow flag before the next lap could be scored.
Barbara was good again on the low side of turn one on the restart, pulling to a comfortable lead. Shawn McGarvey had advanced quietly to third after starting 14th, and now slipped past Frank to take second. Satterlee and Mike Blose from 15th now filled the top five. Caution again waved on lap 19, with a couple sprinkles showing again. Barbara again showed the way, but McGarvey challenged for the lead at lap 20. The two were racing hard for the lead entering turn one, and McGarvey spun to force the yellow at lap 20. Blose was now third, ahead of Satterlee and Miley.
Frank slowed with a flat tire the next time by for another caution. Rain concerns saw yellow flag laps count on this caution period only, and racing resumed on lap 26. Blose, Miley, 21st starting Jason Witherite, and Satterlee now filled the top five. Rain once again slowed the pace, causing a second rain delay with 29 laps complete. This delay lasted over an hour, with racing resuming as Patsy Cline was singing "Walking After Midnight."
Back to green, lap 30 had Barbara leading Blose, Miley, Witherite, and Chris Farrell. Farrell then spun in turn three to force the caution. McGarvey made ground on this restart, passing Witherite to take third on lap 32. Frank moved back to fourth as caution waved with 34 complete. Tim Fedder moved into fifth as things stabilized at the front. A ragged restart on lap 39 shuffled the top five again, with the next lap showing Barbara over Frank, Blose, Miley, and McGarvey, as caution appeared again at lap 40.
With the race winding down, Chub Frank passed Barbara for the lead on the back straight, but Barbar retook the lead from Frank with a hard drive into turn 4. A last lap caution forced two laps to be run, but at the finish it was Barbara getting the prestigious victory. Frank was second after two visits to the pits. Blose was a solid third. Miley rallied in the late laps for fourth, and in the process took over the UFo point lead. McGarvey came back for fifth, with Satterlee, Witherite, Tim Fedder, Matt Gaston, and Rodney Sweitzer filling the top ten.

New Re-Admittance Policy:
This policy is being put in place due to a LARGE number of passes being shared with people outside the gate, and the number of individuals seen inside the gates without wristbands during the first 2 events.
IF a person needs to leave the gate for any reason they MUST GET A RE-ADMITTANCE PASS from the ticket gate attendant. Upon re-entry you MUST Show your wristband ALONG with returning the pass to the gate attendant.
“We are sorry that we have to put a policy in place like this, but we needed to do something. There were people cheating the system and that’s not fair to everyone else.” said Director of Operations Dan Bainey.
Central Pa Speedway would like to thank everyone for their cooperation.
The Speedway would also like to remind everybody to keep their wristband on for the entire evening. Anyone found inside the track without a wristband will be escorted from the property by security and will only be allowed back inside after paying the admission fee.

WHAT A NIGHT AT CENTRAL PA SPEEDWAY!!! SMITH WINS AS ALL-STAR SPRINTS INVADE CENTRAL PA SPEEDWAY, SMEAL TAKES SHOOTOUT EVENT By Terry Whetstone June 15, 2008 CLEARFIELD, PA – The O’Reilly All-Star Circuit of Champion Sprint cars played before a full house at Tim Bainey’s Central PA Speedway on Sunday night with Mark Smith picking up the victory at The Big Bear. The Rex Energy Street Stock feature went to Ramey’s Dan Smeal. By virtue of time trials, three heat races and a fast dash, Mark Smith and Paul McMahon led the 18 car sprint field to the green flag with McMahon taking the early lead before Morrisdale driver Jimmer Seger flipped in the first turn to halt the race. Seger exited the heavily damaged number 72 uninjured but he was out for the night. The race restarted with McMahon still in the lead and Smith in second with Greg Hodnett sitting third. McMahon pulled away until a caution slowed the race on the fourth lap. This regrouped the filed and allowed Smith the get past McMahon on the restart but McMahon fought back and chased Smith while Hodnett continued to ride in third while Randy Hannagan and Lance Dewease battled for fourth. On the 18th lap McMahon was able to get the lead back when Smith went high in the first and second turns and off the track, he also lost second to Hodnett and nearly fell to fourth, but he battled back when the yellow flew of a stopped McMahon, who suffered mechanical problems. On the lap 21 restart Hodnett had secured the lead with Smith on his tail once again, but Hodnett would relinquish the lead to Smith on lap 23 and Smith would not look back, as he went on to win the inaugural All-Star event at Central PA Speedway. Hodnett held on for second with Dale Blaney third, Hannagan fourth and Stevie Smith fifth. Heat wins went to Paul McMahon, Fred Rhamer and Brian Ellenberger. The Rex Energy Street Stock feature Mike Desch and Bob Rosman lead the field to the start with Desch taking the lead and Chad O’Brien second. The race saw some hard crashes take their toll, with the Lee Hummel slamming into the back stretch wall on lap three. He was not hurt but was out for the night. Desch continued to set the pace as Dan Smeal, who started sixth, was trying to work his way to the front. Jamie Barber was second and after passing O’Brien on lap four. A pair of red flags waved on laps five and seven. Lap five was for Khi Swanger who threw the drive shaft and needed medical attention. The lap seven red was for Craig Bainey who slammed into the fourth turn wall and required transport to Clearfield Hospital for neck injuries. Desch continued to lead the race with Barber pressuring him for position, and Smeal continuing to work towards the front. As the race continued Barber, Tim Krape and O’Brien jockeyed for the second through four positions with Smeal riding in fifth. O’Brien then gave up fourth to Steve Cook with Smeal still in fifth. The battle tightened up as cars started pitting and falling back, eventually giving Smeal second. On a lap 10 Restart Smeal was able to get by Desch on lap 11 then Bill Henney and Rick Hemphill entered the race and began to close on Smeal, but they ran out of time as Smeal picked up his second win of the season at The Big Track. Henney, Hemphill, Desch and Jeff Mease completed the top five. Gary Little, Steve Cook and Dan Smeal won the heats. BEAR TRACKS: There were 44 teams in the pits, including 18 All-Star Sprints and 26 Street Stocks…This was the first time in more than 30 years 410 sprints have raced at the speedway…It was the first time in the tracks history the All-Star Sprints were in action…The official track record was established with a time 13.698 seconds around the 3/8th mile track set by Paul McMahon…Coming up next at The Big Bear is the 34th Annual Yankee Doodle with sanctioning from the UFO Late Model Series. New Hill Parking Procedures In an effort to keep the Front Row HillSide/Drive-In Parking a first come first serve basis track management has decided to start using parking passes.
“We had some complaints about people saving spaces by, putting up canopies, using trash barrels, and parking in more than one spot," said Director of Operations Dan Bainey. "We didn't want to charge, but for only $5 a spot - its a good way to make this work for everyone."
"To make it fair for everybody, now each car wishing to park in the front row will be able to purchase a pass for $5 when they enter the gate.” Fans are welcome to still use their canopies or motor homes, but they will need to have a car with the parking pass on the windshield, in the parking spot.
For example, if a Motor home is in line with two of their friends who also are in line with two cars, they combine for a possibility of 3 parking passes. If the motor home then wants to park across the 3 spots, they can, but they MUST have the three passes on the windshield. “This way we are sure that the first cars through the gate have the opportunity to park along the hill side. We talked with the fire police and some other tracks about the problem and this was the best solution we found.
After Sunday’s Test Session Central Pa Speedway Track Surface Ready to Go for ALLSTAR SPRINTS Monday June 9th, 2007
With one of the country’s most exciting national touring groups, the “AllStar Sprint Car Series” scheduled to roll into town this Sunday June 15th – the Central PA Speedway is Ready to Go!
“We couldn’t be more excited,” said track owner Tim Bainey. “The AllStar Sprint Car Event should be one of the biggest events the area has ever seen in the last 20 years. We have guys scheduled to come in from all over the country, and when you add them to what should be a strong turnout by what is known as the ‘Pennsylvania Posse’, it going to be a real treat for the fans.”
For the last 2 weeks crews have been working on the “Big Track”, tearing up nearly all of turn 1 and 2 – re-laying and re-packing the new clay that was put down over the winter.
“We wanted to make sure it was right,” said General Manager Kenny McLaughlin. “We took a little extra time, and even made an extra cut right before opening the track for the test tonight - just to be sure.”
McLaughlin continued, “It looked really good, and to see a Sprint Car run wide open around here – I think that said a lot. We were really please with what we saw tonight, and we’re all looking forward to the AllStar Show this weekend.”
Bainey was also very pleased with the night, “I said from the start that we want to make sure this is the best place for teams and drivers to race, as well as the fans to watch - and I think with all the work we have done, fans can be confident that we are going to do whatever it takes to make that happen.”
Fans are invited to come out this Sunday, June 15th and be a part of this historic AllStar Sprint Car Event. It is the first time ever that one of the 2 major Sprint Car sanctioning series have ever been to the region.

ALLSTAR Sprint Race to SUNDAY JUNE 15Th The ALLSTAR Sprint Car Series Event has been moved from Wednesday June 11th to Sunday June 15th. “We made the decision for a few reasons,” said Track Owner Tim Bainey. “The AllStar Series was originally scheduled to run an event on Sunday, but that was cancelled and opened the date. We felt it would be great for everyone involved – teams, fans, our track, and the series if we moved the event to Sunday the 15th.” “We have other announcements that will be coming out in the next few days, but we can say that pit gates will open at 2 pm, grandstand and hillside at 3 pm, and racing starts at 7 pm. The Street Stock Shootout Event #2 will also take place that night.”
A note from Track Owner Tim Bainey May 27th,2008
“I would like to thank everyone who attended our season opener on Sunday. From what I’ve been told it was one of the strongest crowds ever for a memorial day event at the track, and no doubt the car counts were great. I just want to say that we appreciate the great support from everyone – I heard a lot of good things in the weeks leading up to our first event, and seeing such a great turnout really makes us feel good about where we are going with the place. I had the opportunity to talk with many of you throughout the night, we found a lot of things that worked great, and a few others that we need to improve on – and you can be sure that is what we will do. I think everyone knew coming in the new track surface would get a workout, and it did. We were at the track on Sunday already starting the work, and I’m 100% confident that it will be in great shape for our upcoming event. We’re also going to be making some changes to the overall procedures, b-mains, qualifying events, etc. The setup looked good on paper, but really made for a long night. We will announce more on that in the next week or so. We have a few other things in the works – and will let you know more in the next few weeks. But to wrap it all up – I just want to say thanks for the great support – we look forward to a great show in 2 weeks when the AllStar Sprint Cars come to town.” Tim Bainey FLINNER AND UFO’S LAND AT CENTRAL PA SPEEDWAY, SMEAL TAKES SS SHOOT-OUT May 25,2008 - CPS - Terry Whetstone
CLEARFIELD, PA – The UFO Late Model Series made its first ever visit to Central PA Speedway and the speedway made its debut under new owner Tim Bainey, both of which were a huge success as John Flinner of Zelienople landed his #48 on the front stretch at the end of the 51 lap grind on DelGrosso Foods and DelGrosso’s Amusement Park night.
Dan Smeal of Ramey picked up the first leg of the street stock shoot out on Memorial Day weekend. Through five heat races and three last chance consolation races and then by the luck of the draw, a 28-car field was established for the 51-lap UFO Late Model event that saw Chuck Kennedy and Sam Stile on the front row.
When Mike Frisco waved the green flag it was Stile taking the lead and Kennedy falling to second. The first caution fell on lap three. The race resumed and Stile continued to lead with Alex Ferree moving past Kennedy for second and John Britsky now in third. After a lap 6 restart, Britsky went to the outside and moved from third to the lead before completing the lap.
Stile then fell to second with Ferree now third and Gregg Satterlee in fourth. The pace was still being set by Britsky with 16th place starter Satterlee looking for the lead on the eighth lap, then on lap nine he made his move on Britsky and took control of the race on the 10th lap.
A lap later Ferree was sitting in second and trying to reel in the leader, but Satterlee was opening up the largest lead of the night at that point, letting second up in the air and Ferree was trying to hold on to the runner up spot, but 24th place starter John Flinner was coming from the back and weeding his way through traffic and by the 23rd lap Flinner was in second.
Flinner tried his best to gain the upper hand on Satterlee who was holding his own but then on lap 33 the field began to encounter lapped traffic and on the front stretch Satterlee got boxed in by the lapped traffic and that allowed Flinner to dive under him and the slower cars and take the lead.
Satterlee wasn’t about to be denied though, as he battled back until lap 37 when he became the next caution, ending his night. Flinner thought he’d have smooth sailing but he forgot Jared Miley was in the field and the young racer was sitting third before he passed Ferree on lap 38, but Flinner wasn’t going to be denied this one, as Miley tried to muster up the power to get the top spot it was a tussle for second between Miley, Mike Blose, Britsky, and Ferree.
While Flinner was in his own universe second was anyone’s race, as the position changed often between the rest of the field, with Flinner taking the win over Britsky, Miley, Blose and Ferree. Heat wins went to Sam Stile, Mike Blose, Alex Ferree, Keith Barbara and Bob Dunn. The consolation races went to Gregg Satterlee, Bobby Stokes and Luke Hoffner.
Gary Little and Scott Stein led the 20-lap street stock shoot-out to the start with Little taking the lead and Stein in second. Third was Bill Henney with Ken Taylor fourth. Henney dropped out of contention on lap five and one lap later Stein dropped by the wayside and it looked like Little was going to have a walk in the park, but the crowd was watching 16th place starter Dan Smeal.
Smeal was headed to the front of the field and was weaving his way through traffic like a pro and on the tenth lap he passed Tim Krape for second and set his eyes on Little. A caution waved on lap 12 and allowed Smeal to regroup and try an outside line to pass Little and it was just what he needed as he took the lead on lap 13 and held off the return advances from Little the rest of the way.
At the line it was Smeal taking the win with Little, Krape, Joe Kot and Jeff Mease completing the top five. Qualifying wins went to: Jamie Barber, Dam Smeal, Rusty Martz and Jeff Mease while the “B” main wins went to Denny Curry and Jarrett Walker.
CUB TRACKS: 92 cars packed the pits, including 46 UFO Late Models and 46 Street Stocks…Miss Central PA Speedway, Erin Adam of Erie, was introduced and greeted fans and signed autographs throughout the night…Jeremy Ohl and Jason Walker crashed hard during their qualifying heat race, and Ohl was transported to Clearfield Hospital as a precautionary measure…Jerry Redden and Larry Wingard also crash hard in their heat, ending both drivers night…It was the first race for new clay and under the new ownership of Tim Bainey. There were some problems and delays that were inevitable, but are already being worked on…The next major event at the Big Bear will be on Wednesday June 11 as the All-Star Circuit of Champions Sprints make their inaugural debut. The street stocks will also be on the schedule and more details will be announced as they are determined. For additional news, check the website at www.thebigtrack.com

Central PA Speedway ran a small "Track Test" Thursday Night to assess the new surface, preparation time, and overall condition of the new clay.
"We wanted to do a walk through of the track prep before this weekend's big event," said owner Tim Bainey. "The new clay seemed to work out really well. Our guys did a great job getting it prepped and I heard all great comments from the guys we had trying it out."
The track wanted to stress that it wasn't a traditional "test session", there were only 4 participating cars (3 Late Models - 1 Street Stock), each ran about 20 laps on the new surface and no changes were made to the cars.
"I'm just glad these guys could come help us out. It was a last minute thing, we weren't sure the weather was going to cooperate, but with everything we put into getting it ready the last 2 months, we needed to see how the cars took to it."
The first event of the season is this Sunday, May 25th - see all the details by clicking here.

About the ALLSTAR Sprint Car Series
The Cars
Sprint cars are alcohol-burning, open wheel race cars weighing about 1200 pounds, with engines putting out 850 horsepower. They are the fastest accelerating closed course race cars running today, due to their high power-to-weight ratio. The All Stars race on quarter to half-mile oval dirt tracks, where 130 mile per hour wheel-to-wheel and four-wheel-drift excitement keeps fans on the edge of their seats.
The 25-square foot aluminum "wing" above the roll cage improves aerodynamics and provides an additional safety factor, plus gives a high visibility surface for sponsor logos.
The Circuit
The All Star Circuit is one of the premier sprint car sanctioning bodies in the United States of America.
Now in their 29th year of operation, the All Stars take pride in their reputation of providing highly competitive, fair, exciting racing for outlaw sprint cars with many different winners in a season.
The "outlaw racer" designation goes back to the 1930's when any driver not belonging to a particular racing club was considered an "outlaw." Today, membership is not necessary to participate in All Star events and to receive prize money. However, a membership is available for those car owners and drivers that want to earn points, be eligible for the drivers' benevolent fund, receive travel money, special cash or products and numerous other benefits.
About 400 drivers participate in All Star races yearly in front of an average of 5,000 spectators per event. Races are typically scheduled in Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Michigan, Tennessee, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Kansas. The schedule is flexible to include other states and Canada as well.
The typical All Star race program consists of time trials, qualifying heat races, a Dash and C, B and A Main events, determined by the number of cars signed in for an event. Usually a $25,700 purse is posted, paying $5,000 to win, but over the season, several $6,000, $7,000 and $10,000-to-win special events are held.
Prize money adds up to $1.5 million in a season. Over $200,000 cash is paid out by point fund sponsors to those drivers and owners who finish highest in the point standings, with an additional $100,000 worth of contingency prizes provided by many supporting companies.

Central PA Speedway Resurfaces Track with New Clay April 6th, 2008 By Terry Whetstone First there was a new owner and now there is new clay that is changing the entire look of Central PA Speedway near Clearfield. The speedway changed ownership in February with Dan Russell and Tim Bainey finalizing the deal for Mr. Bainey to assume ownership of the speedway, it became effective the week of Feb. 14. When he purchased the track, six to eight inches’ of snow was covering the speedway grounds and new clay wasn’t being considered until next season, but then a local coal company found some clay, and now things are taking a different turn. “I got a call that George Cowfer came across some clay,” Mr. Bainey said. “Kenny (McLaughlin, general manager/competition director) and I went to check it out, and it looks like pretty good clay.”
Mr. Brooks said the clay would be at least 8 to10 inches thick the whole way around the 3/8-mile oval. Approximately 120 to 125 truck loads of clay is what Mr. Bainey said Mr. McLaughlin believes will be needed to cover the track. “When we found the clay last week, it was raining so we couldn’t do anything,” Mr. Bainey said. “The weather’s great today.” Mr. Bainey is hoping the work is done by the end of the week. The first race is scheduled for the Memorial Day Weekend, as the UFO Late Models makes its initial visit to the mountain top oval, and Mr. Bainey anticipates the clay being ready way before then.
Since the take over, Mr. Bainey said he’s had
a lot of support as he prepares for his maiden voyage as a track owner.
He said many of the previous staff have did what was asked, they have
called either him or Mr. McLaughlin and many of them are returning to
their previous posts.
